Outsourcing was a term that referred to the process of moving some of an organization's processes to lower-cost countries such as India, China, and the Philippines. However, more organizations are moving toward nearshore outsourcing, as it provides increased security and consistency while remaining cost-effective. Due to these factors, nearshore outsourcing is a viable alternative to offshore outsourcing. Nearshore Outsourcing is preferred by businesses because it entails fewer risks and uncertainties than outsourcing to an offshore partner.

Canada and Mexico, for example, have a strong IT infrastructure and offer low-cost services. Additionally, these countries are closer to the United States and have experienced and skilled professionals capable of providing high-quality information technology services. Due to these advantages, these countries are an excellent choice for nearshore outsourcing. Because of their proximity to these countries, outsourcers have developed stronger working relationships, improved communication, and improved project management. Additionally, nearshore outsourcing partners have been able to improve quality control and service. These factors have influenced organizations' decisions to outsource to the nearshore.
